Kittens and cats are available from all of the city pounds and many of the regional pound all year around.
Why are there so many impounded kittens?
Many of the kittens or cats for sale on notice board or in newspapers are neither vaccinated or desexed and the few that do find homes are often left undesexed and so, in about six month time, the buyer of the first cat is now advertising up to eight kittens, to be purchased by people who may also fail to have these cats desexed before coming into season. During kitten season, unwanted litters are dumped in the pound or located and impounded by the rangers. If you wish to adopt a cat or kitten, consider adopting a pound feline – there are many breeds available.
If you have just adopted a new cat or kitten, ensure he or she is vaccinated immediately and that a desexing date is booked with the vet.
