'No Kill' Rescue Shelters work in conjunction with council pounds to save dogs from Death Row. These dogs are allocated to Foster Carers.

Foster Carers

Foster Carers take in and care for pound dog/s in their own homes. When the dogs are ready for re-homing they're offered for adoption to suitable homes. Prior to adoption, they are desexed, vaccinated, heartworm test (where appropriate) and wormed.

Without the dedication and determination of such individuals, many thousands of dogs would never have a chance at a normal, happy doggie life.

Angels -on-wheels. Another very important aspect of rescuing is transport. Actually getting the dogs from the pounds to their new foster homes can present a challenge, even thought transporting dogs is often the least time consuming part of rescue.

If you have a little spare time and own a vehicle, please consider volunteering for one of the shelters listed on this website. Transporting dogs even occassionally would be appreciated!

Most drivers are required only around the city but sometimes dogs are moved from towns to cities. Retired or part-time workers often find this work rewarding and enjoyable.

This is a great opportunity to put into practise the skills you have learned throughout life. .

Perhaps you have skills that would make a difference. Are you a tradesman or a handyman? Do you have a veterinary background, or are you a good organiser or fundraiser? Many people who volunteer for shelter work have none of these skills. If you can comfort lonely dogs, or take them for a walk, clean a kennel or help serve food, even once a week, then you have contributed something very valuable to yourself as well as the dogs..
