About Dogs Across Australia

Dogs Across Australia was established in 2006. We link to and promote some 40 citizen-initiated 'No Kill' Rescue Shelters. These shelters are springing up around the country in response to local/state government's apparent inability to facilitate programs that would prevent the current ‘kill system’. Continuing community involvement is crucial if this archaic system is ever to be replaced with one that respects dogs as sentient creatures and not marketable commodities.

The Rescue Shelters we link to adopt out primarily toy and small breeds, puppies, senior and ‘special’ dogs.

We also explain the reasons for de-sexing and vaccinating, and promote dog care for kids, with help from the Care Faeries and the Pound Dog.

Pound Dog Day - 25 June each year—is a Dogs Across Australia initiative to draw attention to the plight of pound dogs, and to involve the community in aiding these unfortunate animals.

About Operation Toby

Operation Toby is a comprehensive, state-by-state online directory of pet re-homing groups and organisations, including pounds, shelters and volunteer networks. It also has a lengthy list of breed-specific rescue representatives and their contact details. Visitors can surf through an extensive collection of over 200 photo gallery-style adoption sites from all over Australia. The site also features information on other important pet-related topics, and includes videos depicting behind-the-scenes horrors relating to the dog trade.

About Renbury Pound

Renbury Pound

Officially named the Renbury Farm Animal Shelter, this pound co-operates with the Rescue Shelters in their quest to save and rehome unwanted dogs.

Dogs adopted directly from this pound are DESEXED and VACCINATED.

The Renbury Pound website:

* Is user friendly and well laid out.
* Lists all impounded dogs.
* Provides large clear photos of impounded dogs.
* Offers descriptions of the impounded dogs, as well as microchip status.
* Advises when dogs have been rescued by inserting 'Rescue Symbols'.
* Advises when dogs have been adopted.
* Is updated on a very regular basis.

Society would be better served if all dog pounds embraced the 'Renbury' attitude towards genuine rescue shelters , whose only mission is to rehome abandoned dogs. Using a Renbury-style website would also offer the public a useful tool to either find their lost dog or to adopt a new
