If you want to meet caring people, support a dog rescue shelter.
VOLUNTEERS
This is a great opportunity to put in to practice the skills you have learnt throughout life. Take the initiative and talk to your favorite shelter about the best way you can help them.
Perhaps you have skills that would make a difference. Are you a tradesman or a handyman? Do you have a veterinary background or are you a good organizer or a fundraiser?
Many people who volunteer for shelter work have none of these skills. If you can comfort lonely dogs, or take them for a walk, clean a kennel or help serve food, even once a week, then you have contributed something very valuable to yourself as well as the dogs.
SPONSORS
Have you seen some of the lovely dogs on Death Row? If you can’t offer temporary fostering, perhaps you could offer a donation to one of the Rescue Shelters or even sponsor one of the Shelters’ dogs to speed up their re-homing. Shelters always need money to help pay for on-going food and veterinary bills so perhaps you can donate regularly to their food suppliers or vets.
FOSTERING
Fostering is one of dog rescues most important jobs. Fostering allows dogs to be freed from Death Row. If there were no foster carers, the limited number of kennels available at the Rescue Shelters would soon fill up. Please consider volunteering, for this is one of the most important aspects of rescuing.
TRANSPORT
Another very important part of rescuing Death Row dogs is actually getting the dog to their new foster homes. Do you have a car and some spare time? Contact your favourite shelter, they may have a job for you right away.
DONATING
Donations can be made by delivering food directly to the shelter, or arranging it to be delivered by a pet food supplier. Perhaps you could donate blankets, woolly items, dog bedding, dog toys and money. From time to time, electical goods such as fridges and freezers are required.
BEQUESTS
You can change so many doggie lives for the better if you remember them in your will. You will find a Bequests section on some of the Rescue Shelters websites, otherwise, contact them directly.
WAGE DEDUCTIONS
This is the easiest way of donating money and shelters can then rely on a regular donation. Talk to your colleagues and workmates, ask if they would like make a regular donation.
Donating Money. If you wish to donate money, please contact your favourite rescue shelter/s directly. Dogs Across Australia does NOT handle money.
