Puppy Mills – opposed by animal welfare groups

Puppies for sale! This is an ad you’ll see in newspapers and on certain websites. Be aware that the laws in many Australian states still permit backyard breeders and  puppy factories (puppy mills) to operate, despite opposition from all animal welfare groups.Some of these ‘breeders’ supply batches of puppies to sell to the public, often at many times the price you’d expect to pay from a rescue shelter. The mothers of these pups are sometimes bred to death, producing batch after batch of puppies for the ‘market’. Mothers and puppies can live in squalid conditions with little or no veterinary care.
